Faculty Profile
Dr. Paul Nelson was raised in Fort Worth, TX. Prior to entering the ivory tower he worked in construction and quickly realized his aptitudes lay elsewhere. He completed his B.S. in Economics from the University of Texas at Arlington and his Ph.D. in Economics from Texas A&M University. Prior to coming to ULM in 1989, Dr. Nelson was on the faculty at Western Illinois University for four years.
Dr. Nelson's research interests are in regional economic development and pedagogy. His teaching interests cover a broad range of Economics courses but are focused in Microeconomics.
Dr. Nelson is married and has 3 children. He also has a number of other mammals in the household which has spurred his wife to lay down a “mammal attrition policy” meaning mammals that leave will not be replaced. His hobbies include running, skiing, and reading. He is an active member of First United Methodist Church in West Monroe.
